Harley Davidson LED Headlights, Made by JW Speaker in the USA

Most Harley Davidson motorcycles come with a 7″ round sealed beam or composite halogen headlight bulb and starting in 2012 a new OEM option became available at all HD dealers to offer their customers a drop-in replacement LED headlight. This new futuristic-looking LED headlight has 4 projectors built in with a chrome surface and creates a stunning light output with 100% LED light. It’s interesting to point out though that this is not a Harley Davidson special. This headlight has been available for quite a while under the part number of JW Speaker model #8700. See for yourself the similarities:

Here is the Harley Davidson version of the headlight, with the Harley logo embossed into the middle of the light and very rounded lines surrounding the 4 different projectors. These headlights are drop-in plug and play for any Harley and they are DOT approved producing approximately 1,700 Lumens of light output!

Now here is the original J.W. Speaker model #8700 7″ round LED headlight with the Speaker logo and original bezel shape. If you look at the two lights it becomes obvious that they are the same thing and the only differences are some subtle design cues. The #8700 has kind of this “figure 8″ or “hourglass” type of raised design around the two middle projectors and the entire outside perimeter of the JW Speaker light is segregated by a crease in the bezel face. Also you will see the Speaker logo embossed at the top of the bezel face and nothing in the middle where the Harley logo is located in the other one.

These headlights are identical aside from the small design changes from one to another so if you want to get your hands on this headlight but can’t find one from your local Harley dealer, just click here to buy your own JW Speaker 8700 and it will plug right in!

JW Speaker 6130 LED Headlights, Unique Design and Awesome Light Output!

6130 Low beam and High beam LED headlights.

6130 Low beam and High beam LED headlights.

The JW Speaker LED headlights model #6130 are definitely a unique piece of equipment! Some people describe the way the high beam looks by calling them “spider eyes” and the low beam resembles it’s older brother, the more common #8700. Regardless if you like them or not, these lights are top notch and no purchaser of them will be disappointed in the build quality or the light output.

Coming in at about 4.6″ diameter you will be hard pressed to find an application where these lights just “slip into place” but they do come with a mounting bracket that makes them essentially universal! These would make for an epic street bike set of headlights or if you have a car or truck that takes 2 pairs of 6″ round headlights you could create your own method of installing these for a truly spectacular look and style like nothing you’ve ever seen before!

These headlights are also different than other LED headlights because they use an external LED driver. The reason for this is because the headlight housings are so small the driver cannot be contained inside. These lights are very powerful, and to create the amount of light output they do (about 1,200 low beam and 2,400 high beam) they need to use a 64w power driver. Finding a place to mount this driver is not that tough to do, and all the wiring hooks up very neatly and out of the way, but in order to use 4 of these lights you will have to get your hands on a pair of low beam headlights, a pair of high beam headlights AND a pair of the drivers. Each driver controls one low beam and one high beam headlight.

JW Speaker 8800 4×6″ LED Headlights

165mm rectangular LED Headlights

The #8800 LED Headlight from JW Speaker is a 4×6″ rectangular LED headlight replacement housing.

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again… LED technology is taking over the world! The incredible light output reached by LED forward lighting products today is nearly as potent as any xenon product of any style, and it won’t be much longer until LED is king of the hill in every regard. Because I see the future of lighting technology trending towards Light Emitting Diodes, I want you to see this headlight, developed and manufactured in America, by a company called JW Speaker, from Wisconsin. J.W. Speaker produces high-end LED lighting products for industrial, commercial and aftermarket purposes.

Dual LED Headlights JW Speaker 8800

LED Headlights are commonly found in older vehicles and modern day semi trucks.

The majority of the LED headlights JW Speaker is making are designed to replace old style sealed beam headlight housings with new LED technology. This is because one of the largest lighting industries in the world still use standardized sealed beam type headlights: Semi trucks and military vehicles. This industrial market fuels the growth of LED headlight development, and although there are still not many 4×6″ rectangular LED headlights available, this one is the best.

How to install LED Fog Lights for the JK Jeep Wrangler

JK Wrangler JW Speaker

LED Fog Lights fitted to an aftermarket JK Jeep Bumper.

One of the hottest new items for the Jeep Wrangler JK are LED fog lights. JW Speaker is becoming a favorite in the community with their matching LED headlights and fog lights, not to mention the JW Speaker line looks better than anything else on the market!

If you are using an aftermarket bumper that is designed to re-use the factory fog lights, then here is a bracket made to fit the LED Fog Lights in place. The way they work is to sandwich the LED housing between aluminum plates on each side of the LED housing then use the hardware that is included to bolt it in the same configuration of the stock fog light mounting points.

How to stop JK Jeep Wrangler Flickering LED Headlights

This is a harness made by Headlight Revolution that was the first product ever to solve the flickering problems when installing LED headlights in the JK Jeep Wrangler.

This is a harness made by Headlight Revolution that was the first product ever to solve the flickering problems when installing LED headlights in the JK Jeep Wrangler.

One of the most popular things happening in the Jeep market right now (other than Vision X LED Off Road light bars) are LED headlights. Several companies make a light that will fit the opening of the Jeep that uses a 7″ round headlight housing, but nobody makes one specifically for the Jeep. This is a problem because the JK Jeep Wrangler (2007+ Models) use a special CANBUS functionality built into the lighting circuit. This is a good thing because it is a more intelligent design to control the lighting but it makes modifying the headlights a difficulty. This is how to fix the flickering problems you will encounter when trying to install LED headlights into your JK.

This is the only thing you need in order to install flicker-free 8700 LED headlights into your 2007-2014 Jeep JK.

Without doing any modifications to the wiring, if you install LED headlights, like the JW Speaker 8700 Evolution, or the Truck-Lite 27250C the lights will flicker, flash randomly or strobe. This can cause headaches for the owner of the product because it will seem like the product is defective.

Jeep JK Wrangler with LED Headlights, no flashing

With the anti-flicker harness from TLG-Auto you can install any LED headlights in your Jeep Wrangler without any flashing or strobing problems!

If your LED headlights installed in your JK Jeep flicker or strobe, the lights are not broken – IT’S A PROBLEM WITH YOUR JEEP! Don’t send the lights back. Instead just buy the harness. You need THIS HARNESS to work with JW Speaker 8700 or you need THIS HARNESS to work with Truck-Lite 27270C. The Jeep Wrangler JK Anti-Flicker harness for JW Speaker LED headlights is made by Headlight Revolution and will solve your LED headlight strobe problems. This is a plug and play harness and requires no modifications, and you don’t have to hook it up to the battery! Simply plug it into the LED headlight and plug the other side into the Jeep – THAT’S IT!

J.W. Speaker Corporation of Germantown, Wisconsin USA is the manufacturer of arguably some of the best LED headlight or forward lighting products in the world. Today’s lighting market has different segments, like any other, and no matter where you look for LED offroad lights or LED headlights, nobody compares equally to the JW Speaker LED headlights and 4.5″ driving lights. JW Speaker beats the competition in style, durability and sheer lighting performance. It’s no wonder that the Jeep enthusiast community has taken notice and elected the JW Speaker Model #8700 Evolution as their headlight leader!

Jeep JK 4.5" LED Driving Light

Jeep with JW Speaker 8700 LED headlights and JW Speaker 6045 LED fog lights. These match each other very well and are available in black or chrome.

Now that the masses have fallen in love with this quad-projector LED headlight they wanted something equally as impressive, in both looks and light output, to match the 8700 headlights. Enter the JW Speaker Model #6045 LED Fog Light. The 6045 is a 4.5″ round LED light utilizing 3 “D” shaped lenses each focusing high power LED chips inside the housing. Until now truck customizing shops have had to make their own bracketry to hold the 4.5″ LED light in place but very soon, when it is made available to the general public, there will be a plug and play option.

I think the thing that really prompted people to start trying this combo was the Jeep Dragon concept built for this year’s China Automobile Expo. I just wanted to give you a heads up that the Jeep JK 6045 LED Fog Light will become a more viable option very soon once this custom plug-and-play bracket is built and on the market. We’ll keep you posted when we learn more!

Review of the JW Speaker TS3000 LED Offroad Light

JW Speaker TS3000

The newest and perhaps wildest LED off road lighting product on the market: The J.W. Speaker model TS3000.

Have you seen or heard anything about the new TS3000 LED Driving lamp from the American lighting manufacturer J.W. Speaker? It is pretty insane, and I want to tell you about it. If you’re trying to decide what type off auxiliary lighting to put on your rig, consider this. You’ve got all types of options, the most common is the old style of round halogen or HID offroad lights. Now today we’re seeing more and more LED products from Companies like JW Speaker and Vision X lighting. They are becoming the mainstay on the high end sport trucks, and the weekend mud warrior. JW Speaker Corp. out of Germantown, Wisconsin has released what may be the coolest LED off road light that’s ever existed. Here’s the thing: It shoots out light up to nearly 2,000 feet (600 meters)! That’s getting pretty close to a half mile of light output, which is pretty unheard of from any type of lighting product. Also, the light is available with different lenses (clear polycarbonate, blue polycarbonate or amber polycarbonate) and 2 different beam patterns: Pencil Beam or Driving Beam:

Speaker TS3000 Beam Pattern

The TS3000 is available in a Pencil Beam or a Driving Beam pattern, both are wildly bright!

This light is new, powerful and rugged, but some people have accused JW Speaker of creating an “Alien-Like” fixture, that some people don’t really like the idea of using. It breaks the traditional mold of what is normal or expected when it comes to off road lights and I think that’s why I like it. Really, it’s looks are the only thing that could possibly be held against it – and that’s just subjective! Here are some technical specs of the light:

  • Voltage input: 12v – 24v
  • Available in Driving or Pencil Beam
  • Clear Polycarbonate Lens
  • Driving beam is available in DOT-compliant and ECE-compliant configurations
  • Optional colored lenses available
  • 4-Year Manufacturer’s warranty
  • Integrated 2-Pin Deutsch Weather-Proof Socket
  • Weight: 3lbs
  • Current Draw: 3.700 Amps @ 12V DC
  • Bracket and Housing Material: Silver Painted Die Cast Aluminum
LED Headlights and Driving Lights

Jeeps love JW Speaker Lighting Products!

Currently the bracket/housing is only available in stock in silver, but if you can wait about a month and a half JW Speaker’s factory in Wisconsin will custom-build you a light with black brackets instead, or you could just paint the silver one yourself… So the next time you’re shopping for a new reliable, rugged, cool and eye-catching offroad lighting product, take a moment to look into the JW Speaker TS3000 LED Off Road Light.

JW Speaker 5×7 LED Headlights, Model #8900

J.W. Speaker 5x7 LED Headlights

These LED headlights are the best of the best in the automotive lighting world, but they are not perfect, albeit close!

Recently we reviewed and tested a set of the J.W. Speaker #8900 7×6 LED headlights and I must admit that they are totally great! There are a couple small things about them that make them slightly less than perfect, but the pros majorly outweigh the cons! These headlights are great because they are beautiful, reliable and super bright. The problems that I had with these 200mm rectangular LED headlights is pretty minimal, but to some people it may be the difference between purchasing them or not. Granted they are the best on the market, but here’s a short list of the problems these headlights have:

1. Price: These things sell for a little less than $600 each! If you must have the best, then it’s no argument, but for most of us mere mortals this price tag may break the bank.

2. Branding: The word “SPEAKER” is embossed on the inner face of the light in big bold letters, symbolizing that it is a product of the J.W. Speaker Corporation, but it confuses most people. I hear the question all the time, “This is a speaker? I thought it was a headlight…” with a funny and confused look on their face. JW Speaker needs to redesign the housing to incorporate some type of “JWS” logo inside, instead of simply the word speaker.

3. City Light: These headlights have a small single-LED city light built in for use as an indicator or just a unique looking style when you are cruising. The idea is cool, but when you turn on your city light it also lights up one half of the entire housing, dimly, so it really just looks like your headlight is on and broken.

Please take a few moments to watch the entire video, and watch the night time driving demonstration near the end too!

Unusual Headlights Found at Bemidji, MN Cars and Coffee

Excited for the event!

If there’s anything I love more than working cars and selling car parts, it’s enjoying the fruits of the hobby and attending events. This past weekend was a beautiful time for outdoor events and I had the pleasure to attend the small Cars & Coffee event in Bemidji, MN. This is their first event so there were only 14 vehicles in attendance, but much fun was had by all! You can view the entire photo album from this event at the C&C Bemidji Facebook Page here.

Something that I saw that was really cool that I want to touch on were a couple vehicles in attendance with some very unique and special headlights. First is a 2005 Nissan 350z with 3,000K HID projector headlights and white LED city lights. Second is a 1985 Pontiac Fiero with 5×7″ LED headlights from JW Speaker:

1) This 2005 Nissan 350z came from the factory with stock D2S style HID bulbs and the owner swapped them out with a set of 3,000K (JDM Gold) bulbs. Instead of doing what most people do by going to a more white or blue color, this car went to the opposite side of the spectrum for a golden look. The cool part about it though was the contrast between the bright golden (not dingy yellow like stock lights) and the bright white LED city light in the corner. It makes it look very original and creates a dual-headlight illusion from further away. The LED bulbs (5-LED 194 Style bulbs by GTR Lighting) are very bright and reflect off the inside of the housing nicely.

2) A surprise at the show was this 1985 Pontiac Fiero, which originally came fitted with H6054 sealed beam headlights, was now sporting a pair of JW Speaker #8900 LED headlights. These 5×7″ housings are a direct plug and play for the original lamps and are both high tech and stylish. The top/center projector focuses one high power LED for the low beam function and the lower two projectors focus another set of high power LED chips for the high beam function.

All in all it was a great day for the event and it was even more fun to see the creative lighting products displayed by the attendees! Can’t wait until next time!

4×6 Projector Headlight Housing Options

Single Beam LED head lamps

Today several options are available to upgrade your 4×6 headlights.

In the world of automobile customizing and upgrading, it is not uncommon to find a vehicle that uses a set of 4×6, or 165mm rectangular, headlights. It is common on older vehicles, like the short-lived Ford Mustang SVO, or the Ford Probe to use this type of headlight in a dual-beam sealed beam headlight that does both high beam and low beam. Then there’s other vehicles like many Peterbilt semi-trucks that use 4 different 4×6 headlights, 2 for low beam and 2 for high beam. No matter which configuration you have, it’s one of the favorite parts of the vehicle to modify for either style or performance. In this post I will discuss the different options that are available right now.

1. JW Speaker 8800 LED Headlights

The 4×6 LED Head Lamps by JW Speaker are model number 8800 and available in a high beam style or low beam style. These are designed to be able to be used in a 4-headlight system common in older cars and tractor trailers like Peterbilts and Kenworth trucks. These are the nicest, best performing and most expensive 4×6 headlights on the market. They utilize two D-Shaped LED projectors on the sides and one LED projector in the middle. Normally these would be used by purchasing two pairs, one pair for low beam and one pair for high beam, but it is possible to use these as a single beam headlight for a passenger car.

JW Speaker 165mm LED Lights

The JW Speaker 8800 LED headlight is the best option on the market but is also the most expensive.

2. GTR Lighting Tru-Projector 4×6 Headlights

The 4×6 projector/halo headlights by GTR Lighting are a great, inexpensive option that will allow you to use an H3 halogen bulb or an H3 single beam HID system. These headlights have a pretty decent light output, with a sharp cutoff and different colors available for the halo. These headlights look great and work even better. Perfect for show or increased light output, but also offers increased visibility and new technology style. The GTR Lighting 4×6 Projector headlights are a great, economical option that are easy to install and look great.

4x6 Projector and Halo Headlights

The GTR Lighting “Tru-Projector” 4×6 headlights feature a real projector lens and an LED halo.

3. Starr HID Projector with LED Accents

The 165mm / 4×6 projector headlights from Starr Lighting utilize a high quality 9005 style single beam projector housing with 6 LED accent lights around the outside of each projector. These headlights have a very unique look and are one of the most inexpensive projector headlights you can find in this style.

165mm Projector and LED Headlights

The 4×6 projector headlights from Starr feature a uniquely styled LED accent on each housing.

4. Starr HID 4×6 Quad HID Headlights

Last, and certainly not least, is the 4-lamp set by Starr HID. This is a truly unique system because it is super high quality, but is not suitable for pop-up headlights due to the deep design of the housing lens. The projectors used in the Starr HID housings are so incredible, that they are bigger than any other projector housing on the market. But they are great if you have fixed-headlights that do not go up and down.

The Starr HID XP4656 projector headlights utilize high quality GTR Lighting HID ballasts and OEM style HID bulbs. Also, they come with high power halogen 9005 bulbs for the high beam, which can also be upgraded to an HID system by using a conversion kit. This is a great system if you are looking for the best of the best, and can use it.
