OEM LED Myotek Jeep Wrangler Fog lights: What You Need To Know

Starting in 2017 the Jeep Wrangler came with an optional LED fog light directly from the Jeep factory. But what if your current jeep doesn’t have those LED fog lights or what if you want to add them to your older Jeep Wrangler JK? Well, in this article we’ll show you what you need to do in order to install the OEM LED Myotek Jeep Wrangler fog light housings on a JK that didn’t come with them from the factory.

OEM Fog Light Bulb Style

When installing the OEM Myotek fog lights in your Jeep Wrangler JK, it’s important to realize that the JK has different fog light bulbs depending on the year. In 2007-2008, the JK used 9145 incandescent bulbs in the fog lights. Starting in 2009-2017, the JK fog lights switched to 2504 bulbs. These bulbs feature completely different connectors and look like this:

Now, the goal with the aftermarket fog lights is to make connections hook up to these original incandescent bulb connections. When installing OEM Myotek fog lights it might be tricky to tell what kind of connection they actually have. Looking directly at the back of the housing it’s hard to tell if it’s 9145 or 2504. The connection is actually a 2504 or a 5202 connection.

If you are installing these OEM fog lights in a 2007-2008 Wrangler JK, you will need one extra part to make the install plug and play. Since the Myotek LED fog light comes direct with a 5204 connection, you’ll need to add an adapter harness to convert the 5204 wirings of the fog light to the 9145 wirings in your 07-08 Jeep. This adapter wire harness converts the 5204 wirings to 9145 wirings.

Anti-Flicker Harness

LED fog light installs are a little different in the 2009-2017 Jeep JK because in these years, not only did the bulb style change to a 2504 bulb, the whole wiring system in the JK also changed. In the 2009-2017 Jeep Wrangler JK, the fog light system uses PWM, pulse width modulation, and a CANBUS system to control and monitor the fog lights.

You would think that since the Myotek LED fog lights also have 2504 wiring that you could directly plug them into the 09-17 Jeep Wrangler. But if you were to plug in your incandescent bulb wiring to an LED socket, the lights will strobe and flicker. To solve this issue, two things are needed: the adapter wire harness mentioned above, and an inline anti-flicker harness. That set-up would look like this:
